Let's be realistic.
Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
This is one of the best movies ever made. After watching it for the first time I liked it but when I watched it again I just simply loved it. It's just one funny ride from beginning to the end. You can watch it as many times as you like and still find it funny. Jeff Bridges at his best with perfect John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore and others. Coen brothers just gave us something rather special and you just can't go wrong with this movie. It's hard for me to understand why some people giving it only one star as it's clearly 9-10 stars movie, but as Dude said: Yeah well, you know that's just like your opinion man.
This is the best movie of all time, and I knew this right after I watched it. It's just perfect. Everything in this movie is perfect, the characters are outright interesting from the Dude who manages to keep his head cool by adhering to a strict drug regimen, his buddies, the hot-headed but hilarious Walter and clueless Donny, the other characters, Maude, Bunny, Jackie Treehorn, Jesus Quintana are also very interesting and add their own flavor to the movie. The whole story is a sort of whodunit mystery which turns out to be a much ado about nothing, much like life itself - and it was this hard hitting conclusion which made me realize that this is perhaps the best movie ever made.
I had the luck of seeing The Big Lebowski during a sneak preview in late March of 1998 here in Belgium. The room was packed, and afterwards applause erupted. The entire audience stayed seated and clapped until the final credits rolled. Since then I've seen it numerous times. I introduced my little brother to it when he was 14, only for it to become one of his favourite movies too. Quotable, quirky, quintessentially Coen. 10 stars!
This movie really ties the room together. The most classic neo noir comedy caper of all time, blending old school Hollywood schlock with hippie revivalism and art house pretension funk. This is really the coolest film ever made in the modern ages. Has there ever been a more chilled out protagonist/anti-hero than the Dude? Sam Elliot narrating? Donnie, you are certainly out of your element in trying to understand how perfect this film is.
