It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.

It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

Julie Andrews charm makes for a fantastic film like no other and Van Dyke's dancing and singing brings the kids out of all of us. The little children the brother and the sister are also amazing in their roles as well and the clear message about parenthood and the true meaning of having fun makes up for an inspiring and terrific film.

Although I really don't lie musicals, I have to admit this is in every way one of the best movies ever made. It won 5 Oscars out of 13 nominations. If you ask me, it deserves at least 50. Before this, Julie Andrews had few TV roles, but this is her debut feature film and she already got herself Academy Award. Her beauty and charisma combined with her acting are one of the biggest advantages of this film. Dick Van Dyke is great choice for the role of Bert and kids are very cute. Directing is great, special effects fantastic for its time and animation perfectly integrated. Music is excellent and almost every song became evergreen hit. But all of that is less important. What makes this movie one of the best of all time is wonderful emotion it brings. It tells one of the most beautiful stories ever told. When it makes you laugh, it's not because something is funny, but because it pours pure joy into your heart. When it makes you cry, it's not because it's sad or pathetic, but because it's sincere and genuine the way only kids are able to be. Movie that everyone should see at least once in a lifetime. I know I'll see it many more times, especially if I have children one day.<3 10/10 <3

MARY POPPINS is a fantasy music comedy about a magical nanny who helps a distracted family in London. The screenplay is loosely based on P. L. Travers' book series "Mary Poppins".A family drama is enhanced with an audio-visual magic and explosion of colors. The film, which combines live-action and animation, simply, brings warmth to the hearts of people. Some very serious issues are being represented through comic songs and nimble dance. Mary Poppins comes sailing in on an east wind in order to help lively children in the Banks family. She is a certain kind of authority, which will save their dysfunctional family in an extremely miraculous way. Well, as long as the wind does not change its direction...Your imagination can do anything. That's the point, which returns the smile on your face and warmth in your heart. The atmosphere is filled with warmth and love. The scenery is great. Characterization could have been better, because an occasional theatricality with certain characters can irritate.Julie Andrews Mary Poppins is a magical woman and authority in her wonders that are almost endless. Simply, Ms. Andrews, with her angelic face, is the right choice for this role. Dick Van Dyke as Bert is a joyous as a sidewalk artist. Karen Dotrice (Jane Banks) and Matthew Garber (Michael Banks) are two lively and sad children at the same time. Regardless of the magical Mary, parental love makes miracles.David Tomlinson as George Banks is a disciplined and busy man who has no time for his children and their entertainment. Glynis Johns as Winifred Banks is his eccentric wife and somewhat distracted mother, who is lost in her own world. The fun begins when Mary Poppins opens her umbrella.

I may be in the minority here, but after having tried to endure the full 2 hours and 20 minutes of this as an adult, I fully understood why I never liked it much as a child. It is not focused on children but mostly on the grown-ups around them. Mary Poppins appears out of nowhere and leaves just as fast, dumping the children who got attached to her. Some of the songs seem completely unrelated to the story (the woman feeding the birds, etc…) and are quite sad, Mrs. Banks has almost no part of the story, Mr. Banks has way too much, but he seems a deranged character. There are too many song and dance numbers, some very loud, most overlong. Some scenes are irrelevant to the plot development (if there is any) and there is a lot of banking and old men, none in the least entertaining. The only part I liked was the one with the animation, which I just discovered, was the one the author (PL Travers) hated most. Actually, she hated the whole movie, but for reasons different from mine. Some may object that this movie got Oscars, to which I can just add that Oscars - now and in the past - do seem to be distributed randomly, or for politically correct reasons.
