Best movie of this year hands down!
Thanks for the memories!
Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
Despite the double star studded leads of the legendary Robert Redford and James Galdofini, they really couldn't help this crass jinogistic tale set in a prison for US military inmates.Taking in part its cue from Shawhank Redemption but without any class or twists, we don't really have much to say more. It's just twee.Seriously just avoid this film. It's not worth watching even for the leads. Interesting to see some early roles for a few recognisable faces, but beyond that it's worthless.
This is a very good movie. One mistake by the leading character at the beginning of the story probably changed the course of the following events. Don't deconstruct someone's obsession with a collection and memorabilia especially when you are part of that. Redford's character provided a hero and a leader at a time when it was very much needed. People in powerful positions can use their power to make a difference or to do wrong. When two men stand off using their power to control and shape others' lives they better have the intestinal fortitude to see it through. The acting is good. It is about American patriotism and leadership. There are choices to be made and sides to be taken. Although not an American I felt pride and respect watching this movie. There is a lack of female characters but it was about men in a men's prison.
Being a Robert Redford Movie, one would expect a great, above average movie with sophisticated dialogue. The movie started half descent, but the characters were flawed, cliché and had no depth. We have a five star General with superior intelligence decides to build a Castle with the prison (Also named Castle), A bit childish and very cliché in my opinion. Then you also have the "Forest Grunt" Marine, stuttering and all, a character that was unnecessary and just plain dumb. The movie could have been great had the dialogue and some of the details been better developed. Overall, the movie was decent enough to watch and entertaining. "A rental in essence", but not a Grade A movie as one would expect from Robert Redford. In the end, this movie was disappointing and left you feeling with a bit unintelligent. A movie to watch when there's nothing else to watch.I give it 5.5 / 10.
The Last Castle is an army feel good movie set in an prison. The good. Well planned out tactics. Solid action. A bit of suspense and intrigue. Nice acting. Well paced scenario. The actors. Robert Redford, James Gandolfini, Mark Ruffalo, and Delroy Lindo give us a credible performance. Their lack of brilliance is not a reflection of their capabilities, but rather what they were given to work with. The bad. Too much army heroic mentality. Not every soldier is like that. The ugly. Single minded characters, lack of normal complexity. The result. A satisfying testosterone flick. Do not expect more.
