Thanks for the memories!
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
This is absolutely wonderful movie. Naturalistic, no superhero pop-culture (although he is one). I completely loved everyone's acting. Dialogs are just perfect. Funny and brutally sarcastic. Maybe holywHoll should start picking up people right from the street for acting main roles, just like Kusturitsa did in his "Black cat, White cat".I won't say much more. Go watch it on Netflix. You won't regret.
Where do I start? Perhaps with the fact that Netflix shows this movie with 2 stars, even though the majority of reviews are 4 and 5 stars. And gawd-awful movies with 1 or 2 star viewer reviews are listed as 5 star flicks. What does this prove? Ignore Netflix advice and seek info elsewhere before deciding to watch a film. This movie was absolutely brilliant IMHO. It has it all...comedy, romance, peril, violence, Booboo Stewart (eye candy who's screen time was only a scant few minutes, even though he got second billing), and last but not least, Henry Rollins. I vaguely knew of him, but he really shines in this roll. I would have given this 10 stars, but the ending was a slight let-down, perhaps because I didn't want it to end. Do yourself a favor, and watch this black comedy/horror film instead of one of the 5 star duds Netflix offers.
Jack (Henry Rollins) has developed a routine for his life that he sticks to in order to avoid giving into the impulse to engage in cannibalism. He stays away from society other than regular trips to a local diner, bingo games, and to the hospital, where he purchases blood from a hospital intern, Jeremy (Booboo Stewart).Although there is a little bit of some bad acting (especially characters in the first 10 minutes), this seems to clear up. Rollins is a dominating force, which is no surprise. He has always been great at commanding attention, and this is a character that is well-suited for him.I am confused about this being listed as a comedy. Some reviewers even say it is "laugh out loud funny", but I just didn't see it. There are some moments of dark humor, but as a whole it really doesn't play as a comedy and I think it would be better if they didn't suggest that it was. Let the film speak for itself. Most disappointing is how the film is essentially a pilot for a miniseries. I love the characters, love the Biblical themes they were going for, but it was clear this movie was not scripted to be wrapped up in one movie. If the miniseries were to fall through, the movie would suffer as a result. I see that as a shortcoming, though it is one that could yet be rectified.
He's too cool. Henry Rollins over-acts. He's not a professional actor, and it shows. While it's well done and the casting is great, he makes a few minor errors (just look for duckface in the first five minutes- all alone he would be far more emotionless.) It's a well done film, just with a few more scene takes I bet it could have been riveting. All in all, I am pleased with Rollins, but I can see amateur action here. What else? The video editing is great, but it lacks... something. Be it shots of the city (is it a city?) or perspective (what is he really interested in?) or pure action (wham! bam! boom!) the stuff is just not there to feel like a feature film.Plot is 10/10. Casting is 10/10. Performance.. c'mon mr. director why you give a pass to duckface?
