Wonderful character development!
Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
The man with the yellow hat is named Ted Shackleford (Will Ferrell). He works at a natural history museum. Maggie Dunlop (Drew Barrymore) keeps bringing her school kids to the museum. The owner Mr. Bloomsberry (Dick Van Dyke) needs to sell the failing museum, and his son wants to turn it into a parking lot. Ted suggests rejuvenating the museum with an exhibit of the lost Shrine of Zagawa. Mr. Bloomsberry is too old, and Ted is forced to go. Only he brings back a couple of unexpected cargo. The best things about this movie is Curious George and the Jack Johnson's music. Somehow they fit together like hand and glove. It maintains the charm and simplicity of the books. This is a sweet little movie without all the gross out humor prevalent today. George is cute, and man with the yellow hat is a likable nice guy. This is a good movie for the little kids.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. It mayn't be an animated classic, but it is so cute, amusing, clean and charming you find it so easy to like. The traditional animation is nice and colourful, with the pretty backgrounds especially standing out, and the soundtrack is very bright and breezy. The dialogue also amuses, the opening sequence is an inspired touch and the story while thin and predictable perhaps is nice and simple, easy to follow and goes along at a cracking pace thanks to George's mishaps. Not only that, it sticks to the spirit of the terrific books. The characters are engaging, especially George who is just adorable and steals every scene he's in. The voice work overall is terrific, Will Ferrell I am not a fan of but he does a solid job voicing a likable character, Drew Barrymore is appealing and it is a delight hearing Dick Van Dyke again. In fact, Curious George's only real problem, or so in my view, is that it is too short. In conclusion though, it is delightful. 8/10 Bethany Cox
I thought I would be bored out of my SKULL seeing this, but I really enjoyed a lot of this movie. I am glad I watched this with some friends and their siblings, and by the end of it we were all pretty cheerful, Curious George is such a gentle, light feel-good movie! Ted (voiced by Will Ferrell) is a guide at a museum. He needs more fun in his life, and it comes in the form of a cute little monkey, who Ted names George, after the George Washington statue. George stowed away on Ted's boat, after Ted was sent to find some ancient shrine in Africa - and lo behold! George is now part of Ted's life. However, George is a bit difficult, and Ted's life gets more and more stressful in the process...I thought the music was the highlight of the entire movie. Jack Johnson's soulful, calm, meaningful tracks just did it for me. Each song fit in perfectly with the movie too. The animation is fantastic. Though strictly childish, it is appealing to adults too! George is ADORABLE! Just look at him! I also liked the story, it is universal, and everyone enjoys a film, rather than kids freaking out and adults sitting there bored. Curious George does not do that. Everyone enjoys.
I had been putting off watching Curious George for a while, but I'm not quite sure why. I love animation, I still love kids' entertainment in general, and I'm a huge Will Ferrell fan, but I think I had some fuzzy, distant memory that I didn't really care for the Curious George books (and maybe I had seen a couple of the early films when I was in high school) and I was vaguely aware of a negative buzz about this film. Well, putting it off was a mistake, because this is now easily one of my favorite films from 2006--everything about it is perfect, and I have to doubt my memory about previous Curious George works (I've already ordered one of the old books and films to check out). The first thing you notice is how gorgeous and unusual the animation is. It's highly stylized to create a complete fantasy world, and seamlessly combines high-tech and low-tech, cartoonish caricature and realistic computer-aided design. The plot, which is about Ted (Ferrell) venturing from a fantasy New York City to Africa to try to find a huge statue that would save the natural history museum he works for, may seem to be the weakest link, but that would come from misunderstanding the focus, which is instead on a number of abstract ideas and themes. The primary idea is relatively unusual but very welcome--a message about the extreme importance of curiosity, creativity and play. This is merged with a very positive Zen-like "go with the flow"/"live mindfully in the moment" theme, which is partially achieved via a stream-of-consciousness flow of various subplots that frequently, very enjoyably dip into silliness and absurdities. The main plot turns out to fit perfectly with this tone, as do the choices and performances of the voice actors, including Ferrell, Frank Welker, Eugene Levy, Dick Van Dyke, Drew Barrymore and David Cross. The Jack Johnson songs also set an unexpected but perfect mood for the film.
