Let's be realistic.
i must have seen a different film!!
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Before being sent to serve in Vietnam, two brothers and their girlfriends take one last road trip, but when they get into an accident, a terrifying experience will take them to a secluded house of horrors, with a chainsaw-wielding killer. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning is rather scary or intelligent it's actually packed with alot of stupid choices made by the main characters, unlikable set of villains and heroes but also perhaps a way too stupid and over the top ending even for a horror film. Plus the acting wasn't any better either trust me on that. (0/10)
I expected gore from a Texas Chainsaw movie, but not this much. The amount of gore, ugly deaths, killing and blood in this movie are over the top. The whole psycho family is scary enough just by looking at their way of acting and living, but Tomy, the killer is the real deal... brace yourselfes for a real horror journey. I must admit the story is cringe enough, but I expected nothing more and nothing less, since that is the not main point of the movie.
It's predictable given Bay's presence as producer that this replaces the original's atmosphere, scares and genuinely berserk feeling--as well as any strengths the intervening movies had--with routine sexploitation, gore/sadism, and loutish humor. It's slickly made, but there's nothing inspired or even very effective about it. I guess the gore is well done, but I don't find gore a plus all by itself when there's no real human engagement or suspenseful setpieces to heighten its impact. Lee Ermey's character is a banal villain. I can't even think of more to say about it, it's so devoid of any real interest or value save as a cash machine milking one more usage out of the franchise. (But not the last such--I haven't seen "3D," so can't say if that's any better.)
Brothers, Dean & Eric decide to take their friends on a road trip before heading to Vietnam. Dean doesn't wanna serve in Vietnam, but he becomes worried about upsetting his brother. The trip goes awry when the gang gets involved in an accident and a crazy sheriff puts them through extreme turmoil. To make matters worse, a brooding killer with a chainsaw is looking to hack up them and their friends. I was gonna explain the part about Leatherface's upbringing (Thomas) , but I figured what I typed out would be enough. After a surprisingly entertaining remake, I was shocked to find out they were going the prequel route. Don't get me wrong, I was interested to learn about the background of Leatherface, but I didn't think it was completely necessary. I didn't think they delved deep enough into Leatherface's childhood. More depth would have been nice. To be honest this movie has a lot in common with the 2003 redo. It's breezy and fun with a lot of explicit violence. Take away the prequel and the brothers storyline and you have a lot of the same elements from the first movie. You can put the prequel label on it all you want, but it felt like deja vu. Gore lovers will find a lot to love about this movie. I'm not gonna spoil the goodies because they are the best part of the movie. Let's just say it gets really messy. The acting is quite competent. I did like how they tried to give some semblance of character development to a couple of the characters. Jordana Brewster's part is eerily similar to Jessica Biel's. To her credit she doesn't play a total damsel in distress. She was a decent scream queen, nothing outstanding. Lee Emery is fantastic as the kooky Sheriff. He did his thing from the remake and I loved every minute of it! Taylor Handley and Matt Bomer are good as the brothers. I like how they had a bit of a story so we had a bit of an emotional attachment to them. Handley was more of a sympathetic character. Despite how much I liked Matt Boomer, I empathized with Handley a bit more. Andrew Brynarski is an imposing Leatherface. He was excellent in the remake and just as good in this one! The ending was certainly surprising! I wouldn't say I fully agreed with it, but I appreciated the risk in doing something different. If you accept the fact that this prequel is basically deja vu you'll more than likely enjoy yourself to some degree. More could have been done with it, but I was fairly entertained. 6.4/10
