Brilliant and touching
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Interesting, yes. But for all the wrong reasons. 'Red Lights' is supposed to be a serious film about a pair of paranormal skeptics investigating a well-known psychic, but the sheer absurdity of the plot developments and ending make this movie impossible to take seriously. It starts off promisingly but becomes sillier and sillier as it goes along, ultimately descending into farce. You can't help but laugh, though that certainly wasn't the intention of the film-makers attempting to make a serious paranormal drama. There were some positive aspects, including some strong acting performances - impressive given the ludicrous material they were working with.
I will admit that I was very enthralled with "Red Lights" and its interesting storyline. Right up to the ending, at least. Director Rodrigo Cortés managed to have the audience in his grip with a very unique storyline that has the audience in the dark and guessing at what is actually going on.There was something profoundly interesting about the movie and the way it was directed. However, in my opinion, that everything just fell to pieces at the end when Buckley faced Silver. It was just such a poor choice of direction to take the story. The impressive cast really carried the movie so well, and their performances really made the movie come to life. You have Robert De Niro, Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy together for a spectacular ensemble. Just a shame that Sigourney Weaver didn't have more screen time in the movie than she was given."Red Lights" does raise some interesting views and questions about phenomena that we can't explain. Are they real or fake? That is, of course, a question answered individually by the audience. The movie started out great and kept getting better and better. But for me, then the ending was very anti-climatic and totally sunk the entire movie experience down from great to mediocre. And it was as shame too, because this movie really had potential."Red Lights" is well-worth watching, if not for anything else then for the performances by De Niro, Weaver and Murphy.
This was the worst film i have seen in a long time! None of the characters are relatable, the focus of the storyline is unbelievable and uninterestingly developed. The film Goes off on tangents that make no sense, had characters that serve no purpose and an ending that completely discredits it's whole premise! Considering the Well respected actors, i stuck it out hoping it would get better, but it doesn't! On top of this, even these respected actors can do nothing to make this film look good, in fact this film and its storyline make them look like B grade actors in a C grade film. Please, don't waste your time. It Will be nothing but wasted.
I have always been interested in movies about psychics and other abilities. This movie doesn't really do anything groundbreaking with regard to these subjects. But it does manage to entertain to some extent. One of the strong points about this movie is the presence of talented actors like Robert de niro, Cilian murphy and Sigourney weaver. Robert de niro does impress and gives a creepy performance as the enigmatic Silver. Towards the end, there are some hammy scenes which appear jarring. Cilian murphy has done a good job and he is the central character of the movie. The last part of the movie is quite disappointing. The melodramatic scenes, the predictable twists, the hammy acting were all quite irritating. The twist doesn't make much sense since we can actually guess that Silver does have some abilities, at least in the earlier years. It is just far too difficult for him to pull it off. There are too many things which remain unresolved for me to take the twist seriously. Even then the twist is still predictable because of all the foreshadowing throughout the movie. I still give it a 5 because of some good performances and the fact that it didn't put me to sleep.
