The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
The acting in this movie is really good.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
There were some serious high notes in this movie surrounded by deep troughs of horrible choices. If they would've taken a few more months combing over the details, this movie would've been a serious contender. It's better than most movies out there on demand. The cinematography was impressive. The landscapes alone are worth watching. The storyline is tight. The dialogue is rich. The acting is in the top percentile with moments of "eh." But the killer... the flat tire of the movie... there were too many moments throughout where they should've gone right, but they chose to go left. Why?
I usually dismiss small stuff like bad decision making and improbability when it's in small doses. I mean they are movies after all. BUT, this film is totally ridiculous. From repelling down a sheer-face-cliff with half the rope to reach the bottom, to not crossing a not-so-fast river, and not being able to hear someone 15 yards away, because of the 'fast-rushing-water'. It's truly absurd more often than it's not.THere are endless examples of this garbage in this flick, and the rest of it isn't much better. The acting is average, the story is just dull, the writing is deplorable, and the end-result, is perhaps the worst 6.3 movie I've ever seen.I'd pass. This sat on my netflix q for a few weeks. What a waste of space... and time.It is a very lonely place to die indeed. Pretty boy tumbles down a mountain, bashes into a tree, lands looking like and sounding-like he broke his leg. Gets up only to be running in the next scene and looking like a polo model in the face and clothes. I could go on... I'd rather not. Pass.I had a few good laughs, but I'm pretty sure this is 'supposed' to be a thriller. 43/100
What do you do if you find a girl trapped in a hole in the ground? Human instinct would probably have you take the girl someplace safe and make sure she goes home. Stumbling upon the girl is a kidnapping situation that goes awry. It has beautiful scenery and great acting and generates good suspense.I never found it predictable, lots of turns and fun along the way. I like stories like this where we can't take our eyes off it. UK movies seem to do a good job with that. This movie reminds me of films like Deliverance a bit where there is a scary sniper from far away, he could be anywhere and the best we can do is run our butts off. They keep it scary and interesting though and I feel they pulled it off.
A group of friends on a mountaineering holiday in the Scottish highlands become the target of ruthless criminals after stumbling upon a young Croatian kidnap victim buried alive in a box.For a while, British suspense thriller A Lonely Place To Die looks set to scale new heights in tension, with a gripping plot that offers no shortage of nail-biting suspense and breath-taking action; unfortunately, about halfway through proceedings, writer/director Julian Gilbey makes a mistake that causes the film to come crashing to the floor in a messy heap: he shifts the action from his mountainous locale to the village of Annan Moor.Without the added danger of the hostile environment, events take a much more formulaic action route. The second half of the film sees the kidnappers attempting to retrieve their victim while also shooting it out with the negotiators hired by the girl's father, a powerful war criminal; this takes place during the Beltane Festival, with innocent revellers caught in the crossfire, and to be honest it all gets a bit too silly for its own good.First half of the film: 8/10. Second half of the film: 4/10. Overall rating: 6/10.
