Great Film overall
I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
Surly Squirrel (Will Arnett) and Andie (Katherine Heigl) are back with the rest of the gang and are troubled with an all important mission to accomplish. The evil and corrupt Mayor of Oakton City (Bobby Moynihan) has decided to bulldoze Liberty Park and build a self-serving, but dysfunctional, amusement park. The world is dangerous enough, but Surly and his animal friends need to make a shambles of the amusement park in order to defeat the Mayor and take back the park which is home sweet home. And believe it or not, a gang of Chinese rats from another part of town decide to join in the rescue operation. This is less tedious than watching a certain bunch of obnoxious chipmunks. The animation is well done and visual effects are vibrant. A fun watch for all ages.Other voices that make this NUT JOB come alive: Jackie Chan, Tom Kenny, Bobby Cannavale, Jeff Dunham, Isabela Moner, Peter Stormare, Kari Wahlgren and Maya Rudolph.
I'll be damned, this is a total jawdropper. It's like a love child of Madagascar 3 and Zootopia. And, boy, does it make its parents eat their shorts. The Nut Job 2 has everything in fine proportions: quality animation, breathtaking action, various kinds of humor with tons of quipping, total adequacy and self-awareness, cynicism and, of course, the moral center. This is what modern animations sorely lack. They are either way too pretentious or are just in your face. And that's even including some original pictures, like Shrek or Madagascar. The Nut Job 2 doesn't have these weaknesses, while it properly inherits the action and the ability to make a valid point. The closest animation I can compare to - is the first animation I've given 10\10 rating, How to Train Your Dragon(the original). It also had the animation, the moral and proper pacing. Now, of course, I can't exactly compare these two. HTTYD had some of the best scores in animation history, and there are plenty of classics that also deserve 10\10. I'm usually nitpicky, but for this movie I just want to make an exception. It could be 8\10, it should be 9\10, but, for the sake of the quality of IMDb content and the modern critic reviews in general, I'd dare say this is a 10\10 material. With all the B-rated animation we've been getting recently, from the biggest studios, no less, this picture stands as a shining example of a sequel that manages to do better than the original. And this is something worth looking out for.I know this is supposed to be spoiler-free, but I can't believe this is the one animation that actually dared to take a hit at Disney's atrocious singing(well, at least in the modern animations). And this movie actually had Jackie Chan acting for once, after THREE Kung-Fu Panda flops! While the rest of the American industry tries to pander to the Chinese in every way possible, The Nut Job 2 actually does it in a hilarious and quite respectful manner. I'd say that this part was borrowed from The Life of Pets, but... The execution was just heaven and earth. You don't see gangsta bunnies turning to toilet humor here.I hope that this "indie marvel" will get a third part. That's really going to be hard to top this one off, but if they get a proper score, something close to HTTYD, while retaining the same approach of direction - it will be the movie for the books.
Hey folks, did you enjoy the first "Nut Job" movie and demanded to see a sequel? Do you want to see a movie in which animals fight to protect their home similar to lasts years atrocity known as "Norm of the North"? Have you ever wondered how Surly the Squirrel met his best friend Buddy? Well, if you said no to all those questions, then you have absolutely no reason at all to see "The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature." In fact, I don't even know if anyone demanded a sequel to this film. The first film was so awful and mean spirited that it was easily one of the worst animated movies to come out in 2014. Nevertheless, Toonbox Studios thought people were so anxious to see this movie and made it anyway. And though I can easily say that it's no where near as bad as that first film or their earlier atrocity released this year known as "Spark", I still can't recommend this movie as it takes a pretty terrible story, some okay animation, and terrible new characters and blends it into a pretty bad mess of a movie.Surly the Squirrel (Will Arnett) has now been respected by the animals of Liberty Park and has been enjoying life at the nut shop they got in the first film. His friend Andie (Katherine Heigl) though is worried that the animals are getting to lazy in the shop and tries to get them back to their natural ways, much to her failure. Things, however, take a change when the nut shop actually explodes and leaves the animals worried about finding food. Although they calm down when they realize they can get their food in the park, their luck changes yet again when the mayor of the town (Bobby Moynihan) decides to tear down the park and build a very cheap amusement park on top of it. Realizing that there home is in danger, Surly and the other animals decide to take a chance and fight off the humans hoping to claim back there home. What happens next was given away in the trailer you most likely have watched so there's no need for me to proceed further.Like I said in my opening statement, the film is no where near as bad as the first film. I'll get to why in a minute, but I'll first go over the one aspect that was worse than the first movie. The story. At least with the first film, they tried to take an original idea about animals trying to find food to survive winter and made some aspects work. This film's story is just predictable. It goes every route you expect it to go and all it did was actually remind me of the story from one of the worst animated movies ever made, "Norm of the North". I also really hated aspects that just felt pointless and added absolutely nothing to the story rather than just drag out the film like the backstory involving a young Surly meeting Buddy for the first time. The animation also took a downgrade form the first film. While it's certainly not awful and has some great backgrounds in it, it looks partially unfinished as some aspects looked a little off to me like the hair on the both Surly and Andie. Speaking of which I will give credit that the characters from the first film are heavily improved. They at least made them a little likable (especially Surly) and even were thankful enough to get rid of Brendan Fraser's character of Grayson. The only problem is that the new characters are awful. Jackie Chan's character of a mouse called Mr. Fang was pointless and could have been cut entirely and nothing would really change. I also really hated the mayors spoiled, bratty and egotistical daughter who all she did was remind of me of Veruca Salt from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." She even goes to the point where she says "I want it now!". The mayor is also a terrible villain and I was even able to find him worse than Raccoon from the first movie. I did at least like the dog crushing on Precious named Frankie played by Bobby Cannavale, though then again I don't know how this movie couldn't make most of these new characters likable. While "The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature" is an improvement over it's predecessor, I still can't recommend this movie in anyway due to it's awful story, only okay animation, and some most terrible new characters. If you want to see a funnier and overall better animated movie starring Will Arnett, I recommend renting "The Lego Batman Movie". At least that movie didn't give me another allergy attack.
I know I'm a little late to this but why did the Nut Nob need a sequel?, It's just pointless unless they are thinking of continuing the plot from the first movie then It that's okay, buuuuut nope they just have to go with save their home from an evil greedy mayor...Okay let me just start off by saying that I wasn't looking forward to this movie, because I hated the first movie so much that's It one of the worst animated films I have ever seen, so I was ready to slam the sequel!.BUT! for some reason It wasn't as bad as the first movie, the filmmakers improved the mistakes from the first movie, like removing Grayson (Voiced by Brendan Frasier), making the characters less hateful and more likable, but It's still not that good..First off the plot, It's just your average plot with a group of animals have to save their Park after the Nut Shop explodes from the evil Mayor Muldoon (Voiced by Bobby Moynihan) who wants to replace with a amusement park, then there's a subplot that evolves precious (Voiced by Maya Rudolph) getting captured by the Mayor's daughter and meets another dog Frankie (Voiced by Bobby Cannavale) who he falls In love with, It just goes by the numbers that It become so bland and so predicable, I never really cared all that much about what going on because I knew what was going to happen, not the mention the movie wasn't all that funny but the climax was a little interesting and fun, but that's not saying much. The animation has improved from the last movie seeing that was one of the few things I liked about the first movie, It does has some good character animation, visually looks colorful, It has energy and It's quite smooth, so I do like the animation in this movie but at the same time It's rather average looking, there's nothing new to It, but It's good at least. The characters are more likable then the first movie, especially Surly who I do like but he's now just a wise cracker that makes jokes which some can go on longer then It should of, Andie Is okay unlike the first movie where I liked her the most, Buddy Is still good but only one problem Is why doesn't he speak?, near the firs Movie he spoke only one line and now he says nothing?, Is that all he says?, I will never know, the other characters are basically just themselves and don't do much, the new characters are basically the same except for Mr. Feng (Voiced by Jackie Chan) and the Mayor who actually are somewhat amusing and sometimes funny, but that's 'bout it.So that's my review of the Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, It's just meh..., predictable plot, average but good animation and just okay characters, It's better then the first movie but that's not saying much, children will like It and grown ups will think It's fine, but It's not that good.I'll give the Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature a 4/10.
