Trrrific porno stuff in this 1987 movie. A party to die for; whatever happened to those good times, reminiscent of Studio 54 in NYC in the 70's? Women were shown either as helpless or as sex toys. None of the 2017 Wonderwomen fighting men in cartoons. Not much suspense, but snappy dialoque, if you like "pussy" talk.Schneider must have taken a lot of money to take this part. All through this movie, he worries more about his money and his wife's election than his wife getting killed...who predictably gets kidnapped, drugged with a needle, and raped by the sleazy villain. (We know this because the villain removes his shirt while Ann Margret and the villain sit on a motel bed, just before the scene gets cut....bummer). Bodies get shot all around, but Schneider is afraid to go to the cops? No cop can figure out these dead bodies ?Ann Margaret is shown swimming in the pool in a one-piece swimsuit, but no shot of her outside the pool. Bummer. On the other hand, John Travolta's wife is shown with her boobs hanging out as her shirt is pulled off (no bra, folks). That scene alone is worth the price of a ticket. John Travolta married Kelly Preston in 1991...so it is not likely you'll see Kelly's boobs anytime soon again
52 Pick Up finds Roy Scheider a successful industrialist with a gift that keeps on giving copyright finds himself the victim of a blackmailing trio of John Glover, Clarence Williams, III, and Robert Trebor. They are involved in a porn palace and one of the young models has been seeing Scheider on the side. This all is complicated by the fact that Scheider's wife Ann-Margret is looking toward a political career.Scheider fancies himself a tough guy and blows them off. But these guys blow back mean and nasty even murdering the mistress Vanity and harassing Ann-Margret. They video Vanity's death for Scheider and show they have a neat frame for Scheider to fit in.Vanity by the way gives a frightening performance during said video of a person knowing she's about to die at the hands of lowlifes. And this trio is about as low as you can go. Glover is truly psychotic, Williams is a stone cold killer and Trebor is a feckless idiot.Scheider plays them off against each other, a little vengeance, a little justice mix in nicely. Even in the end with the last one standing you figure out just how he will deal and you look forward with anticipation as to what will come.Ann-Margret's character is clearly based on recent Vice Presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro and the foibles of her husband John Zaccaro which publicity about did her no good. Then again I don't think Ferraro had to deal with the trio of baddies that this film offers.52 Pick Up is a nice suspenseful action flick. I'm sure you'll figure out what happens to the last baddie and look forward.
Just watched 1986's little known drama film "52 Pick-Up" which is based on well known author Elmore Leonard's novel the film entertains well with suspense and action a good tale of corruption and greed which sets off a chain of events in a dirty game of blackmail and sex. Set in Los Angeles a well to do business man Harry Mitchell(Roy Scheider of "Jaws" fame)has it all money, big house an elegant socialite trophy wife(played by the classic Ann Margret). And plus Harry thinks about the city council then life takes a twist as ruthless bad guys show up with a video of Harry in bed with a mistress(Kelly Preston). So then it's a game of blackmail as the tension and drama mounts as a blood bath of murder and revenge is on the way. In a good supporting turn the now late Vanity strikes it up as a nude dance model who helps Harry along in his fight against the underworld subculture. And plenty of eye candy is present with the nude scenes of the hot sexy Vanity! Overall good B type action drama thriller to enjoy!
This is definitely a Guy Flick, though the kind of guy who really enjoys this probably isn't somebody you'd feel good about trusting with your sister or daughter. Not being a guy myself, the appeal is elusive. Not that it isn't a well-crafted thriller; what points I gave it are an acknowledgment of that, but since it's my personal review I'm giving my subjective opinion. That can be pretty well summed up with a few adjectives: VIOLENT, SLEAZY, REPULSIVE. It probably made money, though, and in the film industry that counts for a lot. Age restrictions were created especially to spare impressionable young minds the kind of imagery presented here. Makes you yearn for good clean sex and violence... Definitely on my list of films to never see again.
