This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
1 - The soundtrack is OK...not great just good, I used to be a big fan of 50 cent back in the days now I'm just not, still I don't think he's bad so I must say that the movie's soundtrack is OK. 2 - Terrence Howard: He's acually an actor, he knows how to give great performances wich made the movie he made after this "hustle & Flow" such a great and much better movie than this one, maybe Get Rich or Die Trying would've been a much better movie if he was the main character and not 50 cent. 3 - Adewale agbaje: knows how to play a psycho, a gangster or whatever, he is an actor, this wasn't his best role or movie but still I knows his spot, to me he and Terrence Howard were the only real gangsters in this so called "Gangster" movie.
Like other reviews I am amazed at the low ratings. The majority of these were 1s and 2s which seem to me to be from reviewers that don't like 50cents which is a bit unfair. The story was gripping, acting very good from all cast. At the worst it could be a 6 so I'm evening up the score.
Get Rich or Die Trying' (2005): Dir: Jim Sheridan / Cast: Curtis Jackson, Terrence Howard, Joy Bryant, Bill Duke, Viola Davis: Gangster rap flick about conflicting decisions, such as releasing this film to begin with. It stars Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson whose mother is murdered when he was young and his life on the streets led to jail. His girlfriend is pregnant so he realizes that he must turn his life around so he writes rap music in jail. Strong background showcases the dangerous world of drugs and gang life but more about rap music was needed. Structure is predictable with an ending that seems to applaud violence. Director Jim Sheridan receives a fine performance from 50 Cent who recovers from several gun shot wounds before recovering and using rap music as a coping devise. Terrence Howard plays his manager whom he met in jail. Unfortunately the supporting roles are pretty standard issue. Joy Bryant as his girlfriend gives an effort but the role is predictable and straight forward. Viola Davis plays grandma and that is pretty much the extent of her appearance. The film is well made technically and certainly superior to the overrated Eight Mile but the film seems to be just what the title says, and that is scoring coin. Theme is sidelined by its celebrity promotion of 50 Cent and despite a great effort, he needs a role that can take him outside himself. Score: 5 / 10
Get Rich or Die Trying' is a very good movie about 50 cents life. The movie is sad, violent, somewhat comedy, and gangster. You could just look online about 50 cents life but seeing the movie is allot better than that because it gives you more feeling of what his life was like. Personally I loved the movie. This movie is rated R for violence, profanity through out the movie, drug use, ans sexual content. So I would not recommend letting your child seeing this until he/she is maybe 16. I really feel sorry for 50 cent after seeing this movie. I can not believe what he went through. This movie is one of the best I have ever seen
