I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

Bud Spencer as Italian seaman and previous heavyweight boxer turned into coach and manager against experimented American boxers . This time Bud Spencer as Bud Graziano , a hustler and ex-boxer who left the boxing and helps Jerry (Cala) to look for a boxer against American contender from a HQ ¨Headquarter Camp US Army¨ whose commandant assigns the sergeant to form the boxer team to compete Italians . They meet Giorgio (Stefano) a twenty-years-old young who attempt to train against the corpulent Sam Newman (Bobby Rhodes) . Then the former boxer ¨Bomber¨ takes in charge of the training . It all climaxes a boxing championship between American soldier and Latino boxer . When Spencer goes into the action he turns the score , hitting like a Bomber and again fighting his enemy Rosco Dunn (Kallie). This fun , entertaining , engaging movie is crammed of fist-fights, overwhelming stunt-work and lots of humor . Bud Spencer is top notch as one army man confronting a group of American soldiers and as always he makes his own stunts with comic touches , as usual . The picture results to be a crossover between ¨Bulldozer¨ also written by Marcello Fondato , including American soldiers fighting Italians, and ¨Stallone's Rocky¨ argument . The lighting-paced storyline slows down at times , but frantic fight's sequences make up for it . It's an amusing romp with brawls , including amusing bounds and leaps at a bar . This is a nice entertaining juvenile for Bud Spencer fans , as he's delight . It packs action, fist-play, slapdash, humor with tongue-in-cheek and is quite bemusing . This release has some cool and several hilarious moments ; however the Terence Hill-Bud Spencer duo films are much better . The film isn't always good , sometimes is fresh and diverting and on a couple of memorable occasions ,it's frankly delicious. The movie displays innumerable laughters , jokes and slapstick . The highlights of the movie are some likable dancing with Spencer executing punches and of course the boxing combats . In the picture appears usual secondaries from B Italian series seen in several genres as Spaghetti Western , Peplum as Rik Battaglia , Nello Pazzafini , Giovanni Cianfriglia , Pietro Torrisi and Octaviano Dell'Acqua as habitual thugs , all of them in brief appearances ; furthermore an Alvaro Vitali lookalike. Catching and commercial musical score by Guido and Mauricio De Angelis -Spaghetti Western's ordinaries- and composed by synthesizer, as usual ; it contains some tunes in Rocky similar style . Good cinematography by Giorgio Di Battista , being well remastered .The picture is well starred by Bud Spencer . Bud , the popular Latin movie actor who starred in innumerable spaghetti Westerns and action-packed potboilers during the 1960s and '70s, was born Carlo Pedersoli (1929) in Naples. He was the first Italian to swim the 100 meter freestyle and competed as a swimmer at the Olympic games . He appeared as a member of the Praetorian Guard in his first movie, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's epic "Quo Vadis" in 1951. He changed his screen name to "Bud Spencer" in 1967, as a homage to Spencer Tracy and to the American beer Budweiser. Spencer obtained his greatest hit in spaghetti Westerns lensed for a global audience. Teaming up with fellow Italian Terence Hill or Mario Girotti , the two achieved such international successes as I Quattro dell'Ave Maria (1968) , "They Call Me Trinity" , and its sequel ¨Trinity is still my name¨ , both of them their greatest hits. Their dual outings made both stars famous, particularly in Europe and shortly in USA . In all, Spencer made 18 movies with Hill . Later on , he became a jet airplane and helicopter pilot after appearing in ¨Crazy plane¨ (1972) and owned an air transport company, Mistral Air, which he founded in 1984. However, he finished his business interest in Mistral and entered the children's clothing industry. After 1983, Spencer's movie career slowed down, though he did have a big success in the early 1990s with the TV action-packed series "Extralarge". A man of many talents, Bud wrote texts and plots for some of his films . He also has registered several royalties. In the 70s and 80s Bud Spencer starred various movies without Terence Hill , as he made three kind of films : 1ª he performed pictures with a little boy as partner as ¨Banana Joe ¨ , ¨Aladino¨and ¨The Supersheriff¨ ; 2ª about cop named Flatfoot or Rizzo, also called Piedone, such as, ¨Flatfoot , Flatfoot in Hong Kong, Flatfoot in Egypt , Flatfoot in Africa¨, furthermore the ¨Extralargo¨ series ; 3ª about diverse characters as a medieval knight as ¨Soldier of fortune¨ , a swindler as ¨Mr Charleston¨ or a fisherman , ex-player as ¨Bulldozer¨ , or ex-boxer as ¨Bomber¨. The story is middling written by by Marcello Fondato, following the Hill-Spencer ordinary trademarks , he wrote several Spencer vehicles as ¨Bulldozer¨, ¨Aladino¨, ¨The Supersheriff¨, and ¨The sheriff and the extraterrestrial little boy¨ and directed him in ¨Mister Charleston¨.The film is professionally directed by Michele Lupo who also directed ¨Bulldozer¨ , ¨Supersheriff¨ , ¨Occhio alla Penna¨ and ¨Supersheriff and the little extraterrestrial¨ with similar protagonist and technicians . If you love the Spencer's other movies, go for it, and if you've never seen one this is an acceptable start ; but only for Bud fans .This is an average entertaining juvenile that will appeal to Italian comedy buffs

A very good movie for the whole family. It's a well made cocktail of action, comedy and good feelings, with a very funny Calà and a surprisingly fit Spencer. This thing has to be viewed till the DVD burns out, It never tires the spectator, the gags are always funny and original in some way.Unfortunately good movies like this today are nonexistent, the Italian cinema has lately fallen so low, you only see around teenage dramas and various other crap movies with high sexual content. And to think that we Italians have made the history of cinema (words o Quentin Tarantino). I quote only Sergio Leone and his absolute masterpieces and then remain silent...forever.

This movie is a mix up between "Lo Chiamavano Bulldozer" and "Rocky" with an a little aged Bud Spencer with some sidekicks and the same bad guy of "Lo chiamavano.." and "Uno sceriffo extraterrestre". Switch an former football player character from "lo c "Bulldozer" with a former boxer one and a groups of street boys with a single young man and voilà, here is "Bomber". The plot is less than original ("lo chiamavano Bulldozer plus something for Rocky"), you know and the jokes are not so funny as the prior BS movies. The sidekick Jerry Calà is an useless add to the cast; he played the role of an buffonesque boxer manager , noisy but not really funny despite his grimaces . Jerry Cala was an actually famous comedian and because of this the producers put him in the movie. In comparison of those two classic, "Bomber" lost several points but the whole movie is still amusing.
