Excellent adaptation.
While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
It is Asylum, so my expectations were low. Bill Hart works to save his family from a fast moving glacier. For some unexplained reason (in 2012) volcanoes under the ice caps erupt which causes a sudden flow of glaciers moving across Maine...and the east coast (Glaciers typically move 5-10 feet a day with a "fast" speed of about 100 ft. a day.) In addition to the plot, the acting was fairly unbelievable too, although these actors have done better when they had a decent script. Also on the unbelievable list was a Black Senator from the state of Maine. Has the writer of this script ever been to Maine? The military decides to battle the high speed glacier with conventional weapons. Blocks of ice, as big as a 5 story building are hurled up into the air and come crashing down on Bangor The Paul Bunyan statue is destroyed. (If you are going to ignore one law of physics, you might as well ignore all of them.) The car in which the family travels is constantly inundated with snow and ice and it rocks back and forth like the bridge of the Enterprise fighting against a fleet of Klingons. The family wants to go to NYC to rescue their daughter at college. No nudity, sex, bad language, or large rubber animals. Unless you are 8 or stoned to the bejesus, avoid this film.
This is one of the worst movies I have seen. Well, to be honest, I didn't last 10 minutes of the movie but trust me, 10 minutes were more than enough. The movie consists of: terrible acting, wannabe actors (where did they even find them wow), awful and oh-so-typical story line and the worst of them all... effects made by a 12 year old. Literally. Okay, maybe not, but the effects were really THAT bad. Though, I'll admit, it was quite an amusing film... because it was so bad.Quick tip to these so called actors, don't quit your day job. Unless your job is acting, then definitely quit. Like right now. For the sake of the film industry. And everyone else.
It's hard to imagine a movie worst than this, though if I put my mind to it I can probably think of a few. Everything is bad: the acting, the dialogue, the special effects, and the (lack of) character development. I'm trying to think of something redeeming about this movie. A least it's makes two other movies seem believable (The Day After Tomorrow and Daylight - both of which seem to be borrowed from in the development of this screenplay. In true disaster movie/horror movie fashion, people keep running directly into danger and having both unbelievable and annoying dialogue. That's two hours of my life I can never get back.
Bad acting, bad effects, general stupidity. It's a cheap knock-off of "The Day After Tomorrow" and it's really not worth seeing. The logic is flawed, where a minivan can outrun a glacier said to be 200 mph. And the teenage son, Nelson, apparently gets internet. While flying in the air during an "ice age" where a glacier has wiped out a lot of places. Wouldn't everything, including power and all of that, go down?Nelson seemed to be more like a spoiled ten year old than whatever age he's supposed to be. His laptop was more important to him than anything else and concerning the danger that they were supposedly in ... The father seemed like the person you should not go to when in crisis. He barely pays attention to anything, and actually puts his family in danger by flying in this sort of weather. I'm pretty sure that the plane wouldn't remain in the air with so many twisters and things like that ... When the family stopped to talk about the people on the side of the road, the people just continued to stand there. They seemed more like cardboard people. They probably couldn't afford real extras. I would have thought they'd go up to the car or do something. I'd imagine normal people would have been trying to flag them down for help if they saw a car driving past. Instead of listening to what people were telling them and going west, they decide to go save the daughter, Julia, from what they see as near-death. And once they learn Manhattan was hit, they still think she's there? They seem to think she's really stupid.I wasn't paying much attention at that point, but where the hell did he get a gun? When the boyfriend of the daughter, Logan, tells her that his dad's in Oslo which was one of the first places hit, he looks so unemotional that I had to stop myself from hitting my head repeatedly on a table. The acting is that horrible.Anyways, yeah. This isn't a movie I'd see again.
