I love this movie so much
It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
"Witchery" focuses on a family looking to purchase a building on a Massachusetts island. Upon visiting, they become stranded in a storm, and unfortunately for them, the island is riddled by malevolent hauntings. It's difficult to know quite what one is in for in a late-eighties horror flick starring David Hasselhoff and Linda Blair, anyone's guess is probably close to the reality. Tagged as a sequel to the minor but effective "Ghosthouse" (though entirely unrelated), this film is the epitome of exploitative camp, full of grotesque set-pieces and hamfisted dialogue. The film's narrative-or at least, what there is of it-splinters off with each member of the group who are haunted by the dead lurking within a former hotel on the island. For what it's worth, the film is quite atmospheric, and there really is never a dull moment-any lull in pacing is virtually filled by the grotesque gore effects, which are elaborate and nasty, in true Italian fashion.Overall, "Witchery" is a 'good' bad film. The setting and scares are enjoyable in spite of often being quite hokey, and I can't bring myself to knock anything with Linda Blair in it, even with what little she has to work with here. "Witchery" really epitomizes the slew of Italian horror films of the eighties that strived toward American sensibilities: It's gory, it's gritty, and it's completely bonkers. 6/10.
Witchcraft (1988)is name of this movie on my DVD Just found this is now called Witchery (1988) Not to be confused with Witchcraft (1988) (I Like I did)I thought it was it the other witchcraft but so I didn't expect to see David Hasselhoff and Linda BlairThe movie start of in the women running away from some and soon Jumps out of window for some reason but the movies fast When a storm strands a group on a Massachusetts island where the only dwelling is an old hotel supposedly haunted by the ghost of a former German actress (Knef), the result is the standard horror film as each of the cast is picked off one-by-oneThis was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, It never get boring at all, there were decent death scenes in this movie. There few bloody moments in the movie I really liked, I wasn't to keen it the end the story.it's felt too rushed and I didn't really get the last scene in the movie. The acting was really good from most of the castI give 4 out of 10, worth watching
I found this film under the title THE WITCHERY, I'd never seen or heard about it before recently but when I found out Linda Blair was in it I reckoned it could be worth a look since I was already busy trying to find not so well known films from the 80's or they're just not so well known in my country, here the only horror movies people know are Friday THE 13TH, HALLOWEEN and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, basically you can say if the film wasn't part of a franchise it didn't exist.Anyway, what really sealed the deal for me to watch this film was finding out David Hasselhoff was also in it, I mean the Hoff in a horror movie that's something you won't see everyday, the film itself wasn't bad, I'd expected worse but fortunately it turned out to be very entertaining, although a few of the death scenes were rather sick especially the scene where a woman has her lips sewn shut and I won't spoil the rest of the scene and when you see a set of boobs for the first time in the film is also a creepy moment (I don't mean the boobs I mean what happens in that particular scene). The acting isn't too bad, David Hasselhoff gave a better performance than I expected, the only actor that didn't do so well was the kid but you can't really expect too much from a child actor, otherwise the rest of the cast were good enough to keep this film from being a total disaster.Overall, it was better than I'd expected, it won't win any awards but then again I've seen worst films that have won awards, if you enjoy a few good but sick death scenes and a great atmosphere I'd recommend this film.
An Italian horror movie with so many juicy AKA titles and starring both Linda Blair and David Hasselhoff... I mean, that has got to be worth it, right? "Witchery" is not even as inept as Umberto Lenzi's "Ghosthouse" - or maybe it is - and it's about as much fun. Hassle Da Hoff is always worth a few chuckles, if you ask me. Linda Blair gets to play her possessed self again, with an exploded hairdo this time. "Witchery" also features a handful of pretty memorable killings (lips sewn tight and burned in the fireplace, pulsating veins popping & squirting and bleeding to death, nailed to the cross and burned like a witch upside down, etc). This movie really ain't wrapped too tight, and there lies the beauty of it all: Italian genre movies from the 80's are usually a pretty bonkers affair altogether (that ghostly rape of a virgin was a winner! - yes, there's boobies). Safe to say I enjoyed "Witchery", more than I thought I would . Both Lenzi's first one (Italian title: "La Casa 3") and this unrelated, unofficial second film are recommended viewings if you like your haunted house stuff trashy, gory and Italian-style. Much like a big, greasy pizza, these movies aren't exactly nutritious, but they're tasty as hell.
