"Banana Motherf*cker" (really IMDb I have to censor this?) is a Portuguese 16-minute live action short film from 2011, so it had its 5th anniversary last year and this award-winning short film from 2011 was written and directed by Pedro Florêncio. Atmospehere-, approach- and comedy-wise it reminded me a bit of Tropic Thunder, even if the horror component takes the film into an entirely different direction of course. Still I think the key of it all is the comedy here in determining if you enjoy it or not. I personally would at best call it pointless fun and maybe admit it has some guilty pleasure potential. Not really for me though because I cannot say it was an interesting watch from any perspective. Not a fan of the title either. Sounds like Youtube click bait to be honest. As for the cast I don't know any of them, but maybe Portuguese audiences do. Anyway, judging from the quality here, I am not too surprised Florêncio has not (yet?) had his breakthrough yet. Overall, just never an effective or entertaining watch. I give it a thumbs-down and suggest you skip it.

A group of film-makers travel to a South American cemetery—where legend has it the dead never really died—in order to shoot a horror film. While filming, they are attacked by demonic bananas that proceed to kill all but one crew-member, who escapes, returning home to Europe unaware that an evil banana skin has stowed away in his pocket.Paying tribute to scary classics such as The Evil Dead, A Nightmare On Elm Street and Jaws, this very silly comedy/horror short ladles on the splatter, with severed limbs and spurting wounds aplenty. It's extremely daft and occasionally in very bad taste (dubious highlight: the sight of a banana disappearing up one victim's butt), and will appeal to anyone who appreciates cinema of the absurd.By the end of the film, a banana apocalypse is in full flow, victims all over the world falling to the ferocious yellow fruit in a welter of bright red gore. That level of craziness can only be admired.

I thought I could watch anything for 17 minutes. I was wrong. I stopped when I was three minutes in, then later on I tried to see how much longer I could force myself to watch it. I lasted through 13 minutes, but then I couldn't finish the other four minutes.I love bad horror movies. I don't know what this is supposed to be. Was it made by a high school student? Why was this made? And who was this supposed to appeal to? I often say I have the sense of humor of a 13-year-old boy, but none of this a-peeled to me. (See what I did there?) This short is even worse than that failed attempt at humor. I don't think I can find the words to convince you not to waste your time.

If you haven't yet seen Papa Wrestling, I urge you to do so. The superior short made before this, is hilarious as can be. But maybe it set the bar high and some people were disappointed (I can't say for sure). One thing that is for sure, as the previous short movie, this one again isn't for the faint-hearted or those who can't stomach a bit of violence (even when packed with humour). If you were "lucky" enough to watch the Frightfest screening of this movie summer 2011, then you also got a Banana or too. Though you might wanna back off Bananas for awhile, after watching this. Still this is a funny short, that is worth your while. I wonder if they stay with shorts or come up with a feature length movie. They'd have to build a story around the crazy stuff that goes on ... We'll see.
