Trailer Synopsis Cast

An intriguing look at an authoritarian state on the verge of democratization: how Zimbabwe got a new constitution. Two political enemies are forced on a joint mission to write Zimbabwe's new constitution. The ultimate test that will either take the country a decisive step closer to democracy and away from President Mugabe's dictatorship, or toward renewed repression. In a country with little respect for human rights, impeded by economic sanctions and hyperinflation running rampant, failure is not an option.

Fighting the Silence
Fighting the Silence
In front of the camera, a woman relates how soldiers raped her during the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Another victim is filmed while bathing in a lake: 'Every time I smell their odour, I take a bath.' By expressing themselves and participating in support group meetings, raped Congolese women fight for recognition. At one meeting, men first point at the women's provocative clothing. But a soldier extends his support to the activists, just like a reverend does with a scathing sermon to his parishioners. The documentary switches back and forth between hope and sorrow. Two men took their wives back, one of them even participates in the information meetings now. But a young woman who tells about her rape will probably never get married. 'She will become a prostitute', her father sighs. The filmmakers meet with a condemned offender in jail, but he does not show any remorse.

Superjews
Superjews
An Israeli woman living in Amsterdam investigates why fans of the Ajax soccer team have appropriated the nickname "Superjews" – complete with Star of David hats, Israeli flags and songs like "Hava Nagila." We meet hooligans, an Ajax archivist, former Ajax president Uri Coronel and a Holocaust survivor. Who is the "real" Jew: the non-religious Israeli woman with an aversion to her own country's flag, or the "Jews" who flock to the stadium and dedicate their lives to the team? Superjews is about identity, the use of symbols, and what it means to be or feel Jewish. Filmmaker Nirit Peled takes on the role of narrator and guide in the land of Ajax, against the backdrop of her present-day life in Amsterdam and her past in Israel, a country she is very critical of. Though she is initially turned off by the "Superjew" phenomenon, her viewpoint becomes more nuanced as she learns more about it, and she manages to gain perspective on how she personally relates to the cult of Jews.

n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

Robert Mugabe is a man who has been in power for far too long; who has murdered his opponents and ruined the economy of his country. When under international pressure, he agreed to writing a new constitution, it was easy to imagine things would not end well, or with honesty from the President. This film tells the story of what happens. The first thing one notices is just how slick our politics really is, for better or for worse, than that which exists in Zimbabwe's pseudo-democracy. Mugabe's ZANU-PF party really do send thugs to meetings to parrot the party line and intimidate their opponents; opposition leader Douglas Mwonzora seems like an earnest, naive professor; ZANU-PF negotiator Paul Mangwana clearly admits that the game is all about seeming to be nice. There's little subtlety here: the bland evasive nothingness of western politicians is in some sense less democratic than what we get from this set of characters out of central casting. But soon the story becomes more interesting. Ultimately, Mangwana actually decides to genuinely try to forge something new; and is left steering a difficult line between the conservatives in his own party and the demands of the opposition. The emergence of this man as sympathetic gives 'Mugabe and the Democrats' a real story and drive, even if, as of now, Mugabe still holds power. One fears it will only ever be taken from his cold, dead hands.
