Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Really enjoyed this movie. Bridget Regan as Emory was also the star of Magic Stocking (2015) in which she had black hair. Her hair is still brunette here but not as dark. Travis Van Winkle as Scott is very good and he brings a unique character which added to the movie. Loved these two- Emory never felt like this before and Scott knew it felt right. Scott has a daughter who truly makes the movie exciting. He has a mother played by Teryl Rothery who I loved from Cedar Cove (her presence added something special) as well as a wanna be girlfriend Sarah Smyth who also played in Cedar Cove. Emory's cell conversations with her editor was really a good way to bring out her character. This really was a well cast and a well executed movie. They made Christmas magic.Loved the scene near the end when the daughter gives them her Christmas present video of them being together to the tune of "Christmas- Baby Won't you Please Come Home." The fulfilling of the daughters Christmas bucket list made all the Christmas routine fun, especially with her excitement. I thought Emory was not attractive in the two scenes where she has the abundant red lipstick (just didn't look good on her).
Far and away, the best of 2017 - not only does it have actors that mesh wonderfully together, the script is thoughtful and well written .... you'll get the usual expected ending, but the journey is worth watch, for a change !
The chemistry between the two stars is off the charts...its obvious that they know each other (both are co-stars in "The Last Ship") and seemed to genuinely like each other. This makes the movie better than some of the other offerings as the acting is natural. The storyline is somewhat standard but the setting is unique. The daughter is cute-not precocious-which also makes this movie better than some. Good acting and sweet story. Highly recommend.
Me and my family really enjoyed this movie. Just wish Hallmark wouldn't be so secretive about their soundtracks for these movies. Been trying to find out the name of the song played at the end without much luck.
