Masterful Movie

It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

When it comes to Bruce Lee biopics, BRUCE LEE, SUPERSTAR couldn't get any more generic if it tried. It's an everyday kung fu film masquerading as a story of Bruce Lee, inevitably considerably upping the amount of violent confrontation and everyday danger present in the short-lived actor's life. Bruce Li, my personal favourite actor of the Bruceploitation genre, is the actor who steps into the late star's shoes to bring him back to life.BRUCE LEE, SUPERSTAR contains plentiful action scenes but the bad news is that they're all distinctively average. Not one of them stands out and it doesn't help that Li has no worthwhile opponents to fight against. The choreography is a little on the slow side which tests the patience at times and overall the result is a movie that feels unengaging and difficult to get interested in. Average-to-poor production values don't help much, although the contemporary settings are brought to life reasonably well. But the slap-bang-wallop nature of the fights makes them feel very episodic and there's no real storyline to enhance the many fights. This is the type of film you'll forget about mere hours after watching.

i dont know if bruce really studied the snakefist in real life but this minor documentary type flick supposably being based on bruce's early college years has it's ups and down's.it's obviously not very accurate at all in depicting what really went on during that time with the king of kung fu but i guess it makes a tried attempt.aside from it missing the mark as a good based on the true earlier life adventures of bruce lee,i guess it otherwise has it's points as a fairly well rounded typical 1980 style gung fu film. the scene with the snake is pretty cool.the character that's supposed to be bruce gets drunk and plays with the killer snake and charms it with his marvelous techniques.that part was definetely pretty cool.i remember first seeing this flick back in 1988 at the age of 18 and that scene made me want to go out and get a bottle of something strong and do the same type of thing.i found it strangely inspiring i guess.probably because the dude playing bruce looked like he was having alot of fun while showing off outwitting the snake and getting drunk at the same time. also i like the two masters.the first one.the old dude who lets bruce throw a punch at him and blocks it and counters with one of his kick ass kung fu strikes.beforehand he tells bruce,who's still more of a boxer than kung fu dude at the time,that boxing has it's points but it cant be compared to gung fu. then there's the part where young bruce,who loses a street fight to a stronger opponent goes to the snakefist stylist who shows him the finer points of advanced kung fu,therefore the snakefist style enters bruce's otherwise inferior kung fu and boxing knowledge.what we have after is a much improved young bruce lee.actually it's after he trains with the snake and drinks the good stuff that he becomes highly proficient. before the snake scene he asks the snakefist instructor if he can train more successfully with the snake rather than on the wing chun dummy,which he does rather unproficiently while attempting to learn straight from the snakefist master.then of course,with the snake and the vase filled with the good stuff he proceeds to become much better than ever.a legend in the making,sort to speak. that scene really is quite invigorating.you have to see it to believe it.the music and the way he acts while doing drunken snakefist style with that cobra is so cool it's astonishing. also featured in this flick is bolo yeung(bolo from enter the dragon and chong li from bloodsport).he's bigger than ever but he cant use that size on the young snakefist stylist lee,who has obviously became majorly empowered by this mysterious snakefist style.he fights off bolo and then at the end takes on one of the main thugs dad,who is a master at kung fu weaponry and also happens to be shieh keihn(han from enter the dragon),so we actually do have 2 major kung fu stars here in the cast. the fight scene gets progressively better as it moves towards bruce finding his openings and dispaching the master with his awesome snakefist style. although this film starts out rather dreary and gloomy for the most part of the first half it does progressively improve quite a darn bit.it has some memorable action that should be given a chance.check it out.i give it an 8/10 rating.

There were a couple things about this movie that were a bit misleading. First of all, it isn't "Bruce Lee." It's actually a lifelike facsimile of the true legend, named Bruce LE. I don't know why people always claim one is the other, when it is OBVIOUS he isn't. Just a quick money maker I guess. The other misleading bit of the movie was the fact that there wasn't a "legend" of any sort. It's awfully hard to develop a legend of yourself when you only learn enough kung fu to beat up the local bullies. I suppose the producers were trying to package the fame of the real Bruce Lee, but they didn't pull it off.This movie is no different than any other stereotypical kung fu movie. Kid gets beaten up/ family or friend of kid dies from being beaten/ kid learns kung fu in order to get revenge/ kid beats up the antagonist or master behind the beatings/ The End. Very simple to make, very quick to make and very cheap to produce. The only thing that takes time in a movie like this, is the choreography. Acting is only minor, and dialogue can be as bad as they want it to be, because it's only going to be dubbed over anyways. Most of the time, these movies aren't going to be shown in China. They're shipped over to Britain or America (whoever paid to make the movie) where it's dubbed and then released direct to video.The plot was expected, the acting was not necessary (it's a kung fu movie), the dubbing was acceptable, and the fighting was average, a bit on the slow side. I didn't get what I paid for, and that's the real Bruce Lee, however I kind of expected it, seeing as I only paid $2.50 for a "Bruce Lee" movie. Watch the movie if you want, it's only a bump in the road of movies. No real impact on my life, just another movie.**Final Judgement** Stick to the real Bruce Lee-Scott-
