Les Malheurs de Marc Allégret
Les Malheurs de Marc Allégret
“Les Malheurs de Marc Allégret” shows the ravages of time on the rushes of the unfinished film “Les Corsaires” which Marc Allégret began filming in 1940 and which was interrupted by the Second World War. By isolating and slowing down the most damaged parts of the French filmmaker's film rushes, I managed to create an object with abstract shapes and, insidiously, give another life to a major artistic work. - Gérard Courant

Sunspot
Sunspot
Sunspot (2023) shows two lives and two observatories, one in Los Angeles, one in Tokyo. Using archival imagery, the film tells the tale of two sunspot observers both making drawings of the same sun on the day the Hiroshima bomb killed 100,000 people on August 6th, 1945. The film reflects on the forms and uses of light, from the light reflecting in a mirror to look at the sun and into space, the white hollow light of the bomb, and the light shone through the old film footage to create the image we see now. The huge wildfire that threatened Los Angeles’ Mount Wilson Observatory becomes a mirror of the huge clouds and destruction from the atomic bomb.

Crashed: $800m Festival Fail
The jaw-dropping story of the spectacular rise and dramatic fall of British music and festival company Pollen. The company was launched in 2014 by two young British brothers, Callum and Liam Negus-Fancey. Riding the wave of the tech boom which saw start-ups like Deliveroo, Airbnb and Uber become ‘unicorn’ giants valued at $1bn or more, the brothers created a simple idea that soon attracted huge investment. Beginning as a ticketing platform – giving festivals goers the chance to earn VIP rewards for selling tickets to their friends – the company tapped into a lucrative area when music festivals and Instagram influencing were flourishing. The film is based on the diary of Arkus Gunārs Reninger about his experiences in Salaspils concentration camp in 1944, which are visually partially covered by archive materials and prisoners’ drawings, but mostly the viewer will see the specific location today. A documentary observation of a memorial nowadays, where children and adults come in groups and watch individually, with interest or get bored, emotionally react or indifferently distance themselves, sunk into phones, disconnected from the outside world… Film will tell about our time no less than Reninger’s notes about what happened in this place almost 80 years ago.

Why YouTubers Will NEVER Be Mainstream
Why YouTubers Will NEVER Be Mainstream
Ever since the birth of YouTube in 2005, creators on the platform are constantly searching for ways to graduate into television or Hollywood. More often than not, their careers on the big screen don't have the same cultural and emotional impact as they once did on YouTube. This is my analysis on why this happens and why creators never needed to follow Hollywood in the first place.

Pig Tales
Pig Tales
Pigs are animals that we think we know well, but our representations of them are sometimes far from the truth. Extremely intelligent and sensitive, they share many similarities with humans, not only genetic. Meet five piglets and follow their lives from birth to adulthood. A miniature domestic pig in California, a truffle pig in France’s Périgord, a feral pig returned to the wild in the United States, a wandering pig in a village in northern Laos, and a “tourist attraction” pig on a small island in the Bahamas. What part of their instincts do pigs keep despite their domestication? What type of interactions can they have with Man? Five pigs, five destinies, five realms. This touching wildlife documentary weaves together five compelling stories that reveal little-known secrets about pigs.

Le Parti, la Chine sous emprise
At the head of a China which aspires to become the first world power, the Chinese Communist Party is both the most powerful and the most secret political organization on the planet. For the first time, witnesses from the inside unveil the workings and evoke the backstage of a "black box" where capitalism without limits meets totalitarianism and forced confessions. From the economic opening of the late 1980s to the "zero Covid" nightmare, the party and its leaders have kept the cult of secrecy, the obsession with control and paranoia as their raison d'être.

Jeune cinéma
Jeune cinéma
Jeune Cinéma is a footage film documentary about the famous yet forgotten Hyères Film Festival which took place from 1965 to 1983. It was at that time the most important in France just after the glamorous Cannes Film Festival and a friendly place to discover young directors such as Gilles Garrel, Akerman, Helma Sanders, Schroeter or Carax before they became a legend for the art-house film amateurs. Hyères was a vivid space for passionate debates, incredible polemics and above all surprising encounters. In a word, it was THE place to be for all the cinephiles. If it suddenly disappeared in 1983, it is not only because of internal and political conflicts but also for an unfair competition with Cannes. The « Perspectives » section at Cannes, widely inspired by Hyères, was attracting those same young talents discovered there. My personal history as a filmmaker is deeply tied to the “Collectif Jeune Cinéma”, which was in charge of the “Cinéma Différent” section.
