Dog Dick
James Bell's experimental film edits a stream of video full of the idiosyncrasies we have all seen living amongst the so called 99% of the American population - aka shit kicking uneducated red-necks who get drunk, use food stamps to buy cigarettes, gossip about dead co-workers, and try to make baby birds fly before they are physically able. The film follows various individuals as they go through the different stages of their day. Some of these people clearly have some sort of mental disabilities, physical disabilities, and possible drug or alcohol problems. That also references the film’s alternate title The Great White Apocalypse.

These crimes include running away from unlawful forced marriages and domestic violence, or simply falling in love and marrying against a father's wishes. This is the story of one of these women. When Soheila was only five, she was given away in marriage to an old man in compensation for her older brother's crime: stealing his young third wife. When she ran away from the abusive marriage, her father had her arrested and imprisoned. Soheila is finally freed by an amnesty decreed by President Karzai. We meet her again in a safe house in Kabul where she is protected from the father and brother who threaten to kill her if she attempts to rejoin the father of her child. The father also demands that she kill her three year-old son to restore the family's honor.

The Secret World of Gold
In a wide-ranging look at the history and present of the barbarous relic, CBC's Brian McKenna and Ann-Marie MacDonald have gathered many perspectives (pro and con) on gold. The following documentary moves from historical shipwrecks to Nazi 'death gold' and England's war chest to recent years where widespread economic uncertainty has given the yellow metal a "new lustre in the world of high finance." Valued for its permanence, beauty and scarcity, people will lie, cheat, steal and kill in the name of gold; and the clip provides color on many of the market manipulations of the last few years.

Muslimgauze: Chasing the Shadow of Bryn Jones
Muslimgauze: Chasing the Shadow of Bryn Jones
Beginning in 1982, after Israel's invasion of Lebanon, the Manchester-born musician's obsession with Middle Eastern conflict began. His music, a mix of industrial, hip-hop, techno, and dubstep, and usually without any lyrics, could never easily be identified for its politics. But his pro-Palestinian beliefs were at the center of his inspiration. As the head of Muslimgauze's first long-term record label recalls about their first meeting, "We didn't talk about music, we talked about politics and the whole situation that brought his music to life."Mixing news broadcast recordings, drum kit beats, pots and pans, and classic instrumentals, Muslimgauze pioneered a new style of music that sounded little like anything else at the time or since.

In a similar vein to the National Theatre’s smash-hit classic comedies, She Stoops to Conquer and London Assurance, The Magistrate is sure to have audiences doubled up with laughter. When amiable magistrate Posket (John Lithgow) marries Agatha (Olivier Award-winner Nancy Carroll, After the Dance), little does he realise she’s dropped five years from her age – and her son’s. When her deception looks set to be revealed, it sparks a series of hilarious indignities and outrageous mishaps.

Cesó la Horrible Noche
Cesó la Horrible Noche
The film is based on the material filmed by the director's grandfather in the terrible days of the outbreak of the Bogotazo (to understand us, and saving all distances, something like the Civil War for the Spanish), some images that by themselves justify the existence of the documentary, and that at some point they come to shudder. The horrible night ceased (title extracted from the Colombian national anthem) manages to catch the viewer with his warm portrait of the figure of the father and, above all, his remarkable ability to evoke a seemingly idyllic but that ends up revealing in his interior an uncontainable fury and destructive Frankly, we thought that this documentary essay would take some prize, and we are sure that it will be like this in the near future, because it has something, in its images and in the way of treating them, that remains in the memory.

War by Deception
War by Deception
Anyone looking at the events of 9/11 with an open mind understands full well that the government conspiracy can not be true. This is documented in almost all the 9/11 films, which invariably focus only on the problems with the official story. Until seeing War by Deception, it was obvious I had been missing the forest for the trees. This three hour epic brings matters full circle; capturing in three concise hours what likely took years of research by Mr. Dawson.

Can't Be Silent
Can't Be Silent
Musicians from Africa, the Balkans and Iran are touring Germany with german songwriter Heinz Ratz and his band. What makes this project special is that most of these musicians are asylum seekers. In Germany refugees like them are subject to special laws that limit their freedom of movement, their ability to get a job, to choose their place of residence, their groceries or clothing. They live in special facilities and are fenced off from rest of the German population. With few points of contact things have remained this way for decades. The concert-tour breaks that pattern and for the group the project offers an opportunity to overcome this crushing isolation through music. By means of a musical documentary about the band the film "I can't be silent" will bring light to the living conditions of asylum seekers.
